If the cotton candy machine begins to produce smoke, be sure to check the following: 

• Check to see if there is still sugar in the unit. If the unit is running for an extended period of time without sugar - it will begin to smoke. 
• Make sure there isn't too much sugar in the unit. It if looks overloaded the motor may overheat.
